There's an Underwater World in Malacca... new

We came across a leaflet showing nice underwater pictures of sea creatures some weeks ago. We wondered Malacca has this kind of aqua-tourism, so we went to Dataran Pahlawan the next week.

Yes. The facility has just began in business a few months ago. It was my first time handling Sea Cucumber... delicate, slimy and ..errr... some kind of 'eerie' thing to my hand nerves.

But then, they also have some cute and beautiful creatures... turtles....

A gazeebo in the house

It is my dream to have a bungalow and big... i mean really big yard that i can put a gazeebo, like this one...

But this is not at anyone's house. This is at Jasin Hospital. I like the concept at this hospital where family members can wait and have a time in this gazeebo while waiting for the visiting hour.


It has a beutifull lamp hanging from the crossbeam. No ceilling. That's bad because birds will sit on the crossbeam for night nap... and you will see poops.. birds droppings on the wooden floor. It's really sad.

An Old Masjid in Jasin, and Din Koner...

.

There is a restaurant we call 'Din Koner' in Jasin, it's a must visit restaurant to us. We don't actually know what is the name of the restaurant but we call it Din Koner simply becoz it's near a corner of a road to .. err... somewhere. If you happen to be in Jasin, we suggest you to have your dinner in this simple but yet good restaurant. Dinner -- becoz it opens from 4pm until midnight only. You should try 'bubur nasi' (chicken porridge) and 'mee basah' (fried mee).


At the back of the restaurant, there is an old masjid, we believe, almost 100 years old and still well. I did my Maghrib prayer last week and it was my first time to be in the masjid.

Just look at the main pillar. It was made from concrete but finished with decorated tiles. Beautiful.

New spot for weekend fishing... Kg. Kelubi, Jasin

My father was born there 60 years ago but I don't really care about the river since we moved to new home some 20 years ago. But, when my hubby heard about the river last week, he got excited so much that he asked my brother to take him to the river. He wondered the kind of fish in the river.


So, we went there last Saturday. We met some villagers and they told us Baung (a type of catfish), Ikan Putih, Keli (another type of catfish) and Lampam are abundant. However, they suggested to use nylon net instead of rods. We don't have any net so we just went on fishing.


Just a quick try, said my hubby, to see what kind of fish and what kind of bait they like most. We searched for what we believe 'lubuk' or fish pool. It was 11am and it was hot that day. But nevermind, it was a trial... yeah, right!

After two hours under hot sunny day, we finally catched a river catfish. Not a river monster but at least we have something to bring home.


Next time we will be more prepared.

Footprint on Pantai Puteri, Melaka

Pantai Puteri (Melaka) is just a few kilometers to the North of Pantai Klebang. They're few hotels available and we stayed in one of the hotels which was famous with " Tower 13" horror drama. The set was there. Indeed, the surroundings were as scary as in the drama.


The beach and the hotel is separated by a narrow Pantai Puteri road. The 3 S's i.e. sun, sand and sea were great. It was just that we saw the beach was having a bad erossion. Two rows of pine trees were in the sea. However, recently the authority has made a move to repair the damage by pouring the beach with seabed sand.

Melaka - Taman Seribu Bunga... lovers' heaven

Taman Seribu Bunga, the place sounds like thousand kinds of flora in there and not the 'number' of flora. Perhaps and I tried to believe that too but don't ask me to count them. I 've more important things to do in there.


Taman Seribu Bunga or literally means 'Garden of a thousand flowers' is situated not far away from MITC (Melaka) junction. If you take the PLUS highway, do exit at Ayer Keroh, Melaka. After Ayer Keroh toll, drive straight and you'll find Melaka Zoo on your left, go ahead until you stuck yourself in the MITC junction. Turn left and you will be at the entrance of the garden in less than 10 minutes.

Pulau Besar - history of Melaka started here

We went for a good dinner at Pernu-Umbai in Melaka on last Friday, famous for its grills epsecially 'Ikan Bakar' and the thick soy souce. Just a few kilometers south of Pernu-Umbai, there is another hotspot for 'ikan bakar' called Anjung Batu. We've been in Anjung Batu before and this time we would to try 'ikan bakar' at Pernu-Umbai or known as 'Umbai' by locals.

Umbai is not just a place for 'ikan bakar' but also provide boats for those who would like to go to Pulau Besar. And while waiting for the fishes to be grilled, we walked along the jetty to Pulau Besar. And the next morning, we were in a boat for Pulau Besar....! No reservation...

It cost us RM100 per boat (8 persons max) to/from Pulau Besar and Umbai. There is also a ferry service from Anjung Batu to Pulau Besar with cheaper fare per person. However, Umbai' boat service can take you to any beaches you like and drop/pick you there. Just call the boat operator and he will pick you up at any point around the island within 30 minutes. That's great!

Pulau Besar is well known for its historical and spiritual sites. It has a newly openned Muzium Pulau Besar located not far away from the jetty where we can find the island's historical info there.


We paid our visit to Tomb of Sultan Al-Ariffin and his friends. And we spent some time praying in a 'Surau' within the tomb's complex. Then, we were greeted by Indian visitors offering their 'ladhu' and bananas. Sweet. One has buttery taste and the other must be mixed with ginger. Delicious... and I asked for more... hahaha.

There are so many 'keramat' sites around the island, which includes some mystical sites like 'Batu Belah' (Splitting Stone), 'Tasik Bunian', 'Tempayan Pecah' and many others. Unfortunately, we didn't have time and energy to walk around the island. Maybe in the next visit. Actually, there is a 'round the island' van service for RM100 or more but we feel that was too expensive for an island this big. The F&Bs are also expensive. Almost twice the price of mainland! Canned drinks are priced at RM3 each where you can have them for just RM1.50 in mainland. So, if you can, bring your own food or bottled water.

We like its white sand and clear blue water. It's quite shallow, we don't have to worry about children. Amazingly, there are lots of man-made fresh water wells and the wells are just few steps from the sea.

 
Aha! Fishing is allowed too... next trip, I'll bring my fishing gear....

We left the island at 6pm.

Pengkalan Balak, Melaka... 2007

Having my relax time on beaches, especially on those 'famous public' beaches in west coast, is no fun anymore. Overcrowded, full and smelly toilets and parking are some of the issues.

So, one fine day, we decided to go to Pengkalan Balak, Melaka. It is situated at the south of Port Dickson. We spent 2 nights at one of chalet owned by Persatuan Nelayan Melaka. There was no problem on the chalet, in fact the rate was quite reasonable, RM 120 per night and some discount was given to government servant. Food was not a big deal. We had our meals either at in-house restaurant or at food stalls along the street.

 The beach is about 10 meters from the room! fantastic. So, we had our BBQ on the beach. Even though the beach along the chalet is opened to public, it was hardly to see people there. We had our privacy at last.

Then we know why. Pengkalan Balak is near to some pig farms. The smell from the farms will travel through thick air and it was unpleasant to my nose.
